Adoptions

Setshabelo Family and Child Services in partnership with ENGO Free State has assessed over 300 families in the last 4 years for suitability to adopt and has placed 153 children in adoptive families. These are the children who would not have had the opportunity to thrive in a loving and functional family had we not partnered with an accredited adoption agency [ENGO] to intentionally promote adoption in African communities and find fit, proper and willing families to adopt them.

Temporary Safe Care

Setshabelo Family and Child Services manages a temporary safe care programme for the provision of care for vulnerable children in and around Botshabelo. This is either children who have been neglected, abandoned or abused. Here our social workers have therapy sessions and the child and youth care workers become the temporary family they need while awaiting reunification with their families or placement with alternative loving and functional families, through adoption or foster care.

Services

Adoption

With adoption a child is adopted if the child has been place in the permanent care of a person in terms of a court order. We offer adoption as a service to protect and nurture children and promote the goals of permanency by connecting children to loving and functional family relationships intended to last a lifetime.

Foster Care

Foster care is an alternative placement of a child in the care of a person who is not a biological parent or guardian of the child. Its purpose is to protect and nurture children by promoting goals of permanency first towards family reunification or by connecting foster children to other loving and functional family relationships intended to last a lifetime.

Family Preservation

The main goal of family preservation services is to strengthen families, promote healthy family life and preserve a child’s family structure. It is aimed at families with children in order to strengthen and build their capacity and self-reliance to address problems that may occur in the family environment. It is also provided to families where there are children identified as being vulnerable to or at risk of harm or removal into alternative care.
